Refer a Patient
Head & Neck Therapy welcomes referrals from physicians, advanced practice providers, and healthcare professionals for adult patients requiring specialized Speech-Language Pathology services.
Common Referral Reasons
- Head and neck cancer (pre-, during, or post-treatment)
- Radiation-related changes (fibrosis, reduced range of motion, swallowing changes, voice changes)
- Post-surgical head and neck effects (resection, reconstruction, scar-related restrictions)
- Dysphagia / swallowing disorders
- Voice disorders (post-radiation, post-surgical, or functional)
- Head and neck lymphedema
- Reduced jaw mobility or trismus
- Changes in speech or intelligibility following cancer treatment
Referrals are accepted at any point in the cancer care continuum, including pre-treatment, active treatment, and survivorship.
Information for Referring Providers
Head & Neck Therapy accepts referrals for adult patients with complex speech, swallowing, voice, and head and neck lymphatic disorders. Services are appropriate for patients before, during, or after treatment for head and neck cancer, as well as for individuals experiencing radiation-related changes, post-surgical effects, dysphagia, voice disorders, and head and neck lymphedema. Care is evidence-based and coordinated with the referring provider when appropriate.
- Pre-treatment counseling and baseline assessment
- Post-surgical and post-radiation functional rehabilitation
- Dysphagia evaluation and treatment
- Voice and communication rehabilitation
- Head and neck lymphedema management
- Mandibular/jaw range of motion impairment, including trismus related to surgery or radiation

Information Helpful for Referral
When available, please include:
- Relevant diagnosis and treatment history
- Surgical and/or radiation details
- Most recent clinic notes
- Any swallowing studies or imaging reports
- Patient Face Sheet
Care Coordination
When appropriate, progress updates and coordination of care with the referring provider are provided throughout the course of treatment.
